The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a religious instruction program and conversion process for the non-baptized and those baptized in separated Christian Churches. It is a process for welcoming adult newcomers or returning Catholics (inquirers) into the Roman Catholic Church.
The RCIA is a community journey in which the church members reflect on their own relationship with God, and a personal journey that leads to a transformation of mind and spirit.
Who should attend RCIA classes?
- The non-baptized and those seeking information about becoming a Catholic.
- Individuals baptized in another Christian Church who desire full communion with the Catholic Church.
- Adult Catholics who have not received First Communion and Confirmation and wish to update their faith knowledge.
Do I have to commit to the entire year? No. The pre-catechumenate series is designed to provide those who are curious about the Catholic religion with basic information so that they can make a decision to come into the Catholic faith or decide that this is not the right decision in their life at this time. We are here to assist the pre-catechumenate in their own discernment process regarding a faith commitment, and though there will be steps along the way representing a deeper commitment, there will never be pressure to proceed.
